**** VDE FOR EINSTEIN **** 1. KEYBOARD TAB = Ctrl I Repat FIND = Ctrl | (The 'half' key) 2. PRINTER INSTALLATION The printer (Epson FX/Panasonic 1081/Star LC10 etc.) is initialised to make a hash (USA) into a UK sterling Pounds sign. ^B Emphasised Text ^B ^D Double Strike Text ^D ^S Underlined Text ^S ^Y Itallic Text ^Y ^W Wide Characters (^R) (Turns of by ^R or at end of line anyway) ^Q Squeezed Characters ^R These Characters are overwritten by ^E These Characters following. The following MACROS also instal print codes: Esc 0 Hash key makes hashes ^R Hash key makes pounds sign. Esc 4 Set up Panasonic 1081 to print with both margins justified. Also sets up margins again for printer. VDE can't justify both margins but some printers such as 1081 can do so. Esc 5 Subscript Text ^R Esc 6 Superscript Text ^R 3. MACRO KEYS DEFINED Esc 1 Insert 4 spaces (Roughly a half Tab) Esc 2 Drag line 4 places left of margin. Esc 3 Push margin 4 places to right. Esc 7 Find ~ at line ends and make the next line overstrike this line by replacing it with ^E and concatenating lines. Esc 8 Insert a page break with footer and place to number next page. This is a sample of this technique. It can also be done by means of a file that conatins the header and footer and form-feed that is inserted (Esc R) into the file. In either case turn off the paging at print out time by setting both margins to 1. Esc 9 Copy this line to the line below. 4. PATCH AREA The patch area at 0250 has been filled with code to sort out the delete key when running under XTAL DOS. This version will now work OK on both ZDOS and XDOS I believe. However, I have not used this super new version much in anger. Bill Powell.
